Yesterday Susan (who goes to the Mason UMC) said “I need a carpenter” to do something at the Zerkle House. She was going to call a particular person from the church, who’s very good with wood. I told Susan that that person was in Florida for a few months. She said she’d need to find someone else then. I told her Jim Gress was her man. He’s another one that’s very good.
As I was thinking about that, I thought about Jesus being a carpenter. Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son…? ~ Mark 6:3 When people needed a carpenter back then, they probably went to see Jesus. If he wasn’t available, they probably went to another. While any carpenter would do for the woodworking, most people then had no idea how much they needed this particular carpenter. Jesus is the carpenter Son of God who takes away the sin of the world, including yours and mine. When it’s doing woodwork, any carpenter will do. When it comes to fixing us, no other carpenter will do.
