Wherever we go, that’s where the party’s at… (Where Jesus is)

In the Old Testament God’s people had to go to the temple in Jerusalem to worship God.  God was in the temple.

Today, we still have this Old Testament way of thinking and I have been guilty of fertilizing that philosophy.  “Invite people to church” I have instructed the congregation.   That’s bad theology.  If Jesus is your Savior, you are a part of the body of Jesus, which is the church.  While I certainly pray that God is present when we gather to worship and I hope people will invite others to church, God does not live in the church.  God lives in His people.  When you say yes to Jesus, when you are one of His, He sends His Spirit to live in you!  1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?”

Wherever you and I go, there Jesus goes.  Whatever you and I are doing, that’s what Jesus is doing.  Getting others to come to church is not the most important thing.  Getting them to come to Jesus is the most important thing.  And when you as a Believer are with them, Jesus is with them.  You don’t need to take them anywhere else to meet Jesus.  They can meet Jesus in you and you can take them to the foot of the cross with your testimony.

The Newsboys have this song which belabors the point:
