Satan wants you to die. God also wants you to die.

The other day I read one of those things that I will never forget – That Satan and God both want you to die.  I’d never heard it put together like that.

You know Satan wants you to die, right?  Satan knows that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to defeat death thereby giving everlasting LIFE to those who call upon the name of Jesus (Romans 10:8).  Satan knows the next verse as well, “…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)  Satan wants death for you – eternal death.  And lest you think Satan will be laughing and making your life miserable in the eternal death and separation from God that we know as hell, think again.  Satan will be suffering right there along with you.  Satan wants for you a future with him.  Should we choose that future, we will have it when we die.  Satan wants you to die.

God also wants you to die.  In 1 Corinthians 15:31, Paul said he died every day!  God wants us to die to ourselves.  God wants us to die to sin (1 Peter 2:24).  Mark 8:35 says, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.”  Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be ‘born again’.  When we are willing to give up this life to Jesus, dying to ourselves, we are born again, we become a new creation.  And we gain eternal life.  God wants for you a future with Him.  Should we choose that future, we will have it when we die.  God wants you to die.

The difference in their desires is that with Satan, death doesn’t happen until we take our last breath on earth and then there’s no escaping it and no turning back.  With God, it happens the moment we confess our sins, ask for forgiveness available through Jesus, and start living for Him, with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Giving up our lives for Him is a ‘born again’ moment and then we grow in Christ until our final breath when we join Him forever.  Both want you to die.  You’re going to die.  It’s your choice when and what the results will be.
