God will give you a fresh start today

I remember when I used to sell manufactured houses and sometimes the guys who delivered them would get in a jam.  They would deliver the houses with a big truck and the house would at times get in a place where it appeared it was stuck, with little chance of going ahead and no chance of going back.  I remember one guy would frequently say, “It doesn’t do any good to talk about what we should have done differently, we have to go from where we are now.”

Leslie Weatherhead (who is from England) shares a story about a motorist who was looking for directions.  The motorist leaned out the window and asked a person walking on the street how to get to York.  The person said, “Well sir, if I were going to York, I certainly wouldn’t start from here.”  It reminds me of the old saying, “You can’t get there from here.”

Fortunately, God can get you to where He wants you to be from where you are right now.  Looking back at decisions you would have made differently will do you no good.  You really have no choice but to start from where you are – today.  The best time to start eating healthy isn’t Monday.  It’s today.  The best time to start exercising isn’t the first of next month.  It’s today.  The best time to start saving money isn’t when you have extra money, say it with me….  It’s today.  The best time to take hold of the plan and path God has for you is today, from right where you are.  Don’t try to get things straightened out and then think you will rely on Jesus.  Don’t worry that you might take the wrong step.  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

Rely on Him today.  Start today from where you are.  And if you feel the need to apologize to Him for your past regrets, do it and rest assured He will forgive you and put it behind you.  He’ll give you a fresh start today.
