The mayor of Mason is putting out the word on Facebook that a young mother lost all her possessions in a fire last night. The mayor is looking for people who may be able to help. And from what I can tell, they worked to fill immediate needs last night. I would guess that finding help for a fire victim would be going ‘above and beyond’ the mayor’s job description.
It just so happens that the mayor is a follower of Jesus Christ. That is a more important job than being mayor. And helping someone who lost their possessions in a fire is not ‘above and beyond’ her job as one of Jesus’ followers. It is precisely her job as one of Jesus’ followers. And when she helps the young mother, Jesus says He considers that the same as helping Him. When we see a need, we should be reaching out. They will know we are Christians by our love.
