I’ve had people ask me and heard others wonder if someone has been a follower of Jesus, but has strayed from Him if God will “take them back”. While there are Scripture verses I can quote that could make me wonder about that myself, the over arching theme of the Bible from beginning to end is that God will never give up on you.
And as I was thinking about this, the most convincing case to me is what Jesus told Peter. When Peter asked Jesus (who IS God),
“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”
Do you get it? Jesus tells Peter to forgive others when they have sinned against him over and over and over and over and over. Do you think there is any way that God would do any less for us? If we ask, He will forgive us over and over and over, no matter how far we’ve strayed. The part to worry about is listening to Satan who would lie and tell you otherwise.
