I’m at a different computer, at a different desk, in a different church, in a different community, in a different part of the state. There are different people downstairs in a different fellowship hall. Tomorrow morning I will be preaching in a different sanctuary.
Many of my peers are in the same situation today as pastoral changes made by the WV UMC are taking place this week and next. Many congregations across the state will be in familiar settings with new and unfamiliar people sent to walk with them on their journey of faith. The people of Wesley Chapel UMC and the people of Mason UMC will be two of those congregations.
But praise God some things are the same. This morning the same sun came up. I’m writing the same blog (and to those of you who wondered if you’d still be able to get it: congrats, you found it!) This morning I opened the same Bible. And while our interpretations of God’s Word may change, His Word does not. Tomorrow morning I will be in a familiar place: delivering a word from His Word to His people so they may be encouraged, be challenged, and be comforted.
It’s comforting to know that whatever changes we go through in life, Jesus Christ is a steadying force. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” ~ Hebrews 13:8.
Looking forward to your sermon.
