Tenth Avenue North is a group that sings encouraging songs for Jesus. They have a song that says, “You are more than the sum of your past mistakes… You’ve been remade.” That’s true and that’s comforting. However, satan will keep telling you that you are bound by your past mistakes, that God would never forgive you, and that you’ll never really change. And satan is a liar and a deceiver.
While it’s true that sometimes our old habits may at times win the moment, when we have Jesus, the person we were will not win the war. But you are the one who has to tell the deceiver that. Jesus will be with you when you tell him, but you have to tell him. You are not bound by your past mistakes. While there may be consequences to pay in society and with friends and relatives, Jesus forgives you when you ask and day by day will walk with you and strengthen you so that the past becomes a distant memory – almost seeming like a lifetime ago.
Fix your eyes on Jesus and for your own sake, make sure you are hooked up with a church and don’t let satan talk you into sleeping in on Sunday mornings and don’t listen to him when he tells you that you would not be welcome in the church. If you’re not welcome in one church, then Jesus isn’t there anyhow – find another one. If Jesus is in a church, you will be welcome – no matter what you’ve done and no matter what you look like. Jesus loves you and wants a relationship with you.
