There was about 400 years between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Of course, this was a substantial amount of time if you were waiting for someone. Think about it. If you had kids, and your kids had kids, and their kids had kids and their kids had kids… I don’t know how many generations that is, but people were born and died all the while waiting for this promised King. It would be natural to begin to wonder when and even IF this promised King would show up.
But then one day it happened. God fulfilled His promise. The Hope of the world arrived in the form of a baby. And now after almost two thousand years, we are again waiting. But now, we await the return of the King. And irony of ironies, before Jesus came the first time as a baby, they were waiting for the Hope of the world. Now, we are living in a time where there is Hope. We have hope that we and others will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. Once Jesus comes back and claims those who are His, Hope will again be gone for those who have not made a choice to be His and to be covered by His blood.
Today, we are not without hope. And when we are His, we will never be without hope again.
