Do you have anything to worry about? Chances are you do have something you could worry about. Last night during the Mountaineer basketball game I was worried that WVU was going to lose their lead late in the game and get beat. They did. Life goes on. The sun came up today. I know that’s not a serious worry. Teams win and teams lose.
We worry that people will like the gift we bought them. People in Mason County are worried about the power plants closing and people losing their jobs. We worry about our loved ones driving on the snow and ice of winter. Many people worry about money. People in Haiti worry about what they’re going to eat today. I know people who worry about their loved ones in prison. People are worried about loved ones who are sick.
And odds are, you’re worried about something I haven’t mentioned. And I’m not saying that everything we worry about it trivial. There’s some serious stuff we worry about.
In Matthew 6, Jesus says don’t worry. Don’t worry about what you will eat, what you will wear, or about your life. He says don’t worry about tomorrow.
I know it’s difficult not to worry and so do you. But I’m convinced that it does no good. Think about all the times and all the things you’ve ever worried about and ask yourself if it did any good. Ask yourself if it changed anything. Worry changes nothing.
1 Peter 5:7
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (NLT)
