Just try to be obedient

Yesterday in the church bulletin and in church I announced that we’re beginning a third worship service on Sunday mornings on Easter day.  We currently have worship at 8:30 and 11:00.  We’ve known we’re beginning a third Sunday morning worship for four months.  We just didn’t know when.  I’ve been waiting for God to let me know.  Last week I felt He was letting me know it was supposed to be on Easter.  I don’t know that we’ll be ready on Easter.

I told the church yesterday that I didn’t have it all figured out.  I told them I just knew what we were supposed to do.  And we’re supposed to begin a 9:30 worship on Easter morning.  It doesn’t make sense to me to begin a new worship on the most attended Sunday of the year.  I’ll be busy enough and the day will be hectic enough without beginning a new worship.  It would make more sense to me to start it several weeks before Easter or the week after Easter to get some kinks worked out.  Yet I told them I was only trying to be obedient.

Being obedient to God doesn’t always look like the wise decision.  Being obedient to God doesn’t always look like we’re serving our own self-interest.  But I’ve found the more I obey, the more I trust Him to be obedient.  German theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer put it this way: “Only the believing obey, only the obedient believe”.
