The motivation behind the action

In a reading today from Oswald Chambers he says that a person who has a vision that God has given him or her is not devoted to a cause or to any particular issue, but is devoted to God Himself.  And that devotion to God always makes us want more of God.

Chambers says that our motivation in everything should be to grow closer to Jesus.  So that when we pray for healing for ourselves or a friend or relative, the healing is really secondary to our primary motivation to grow closer to Jesus, which He can accomplish in us through healing – or in not healing.  When we serve others, our primary motivation is not to help others, but to gain more of Jesus as we grow closer to Him through the serving.

It’s not a good thing to be spiritually satisfied or think we are close enough to God.  Chambers says we are to always be reaching out toward Jesus farther than what we have grasped.
