The Good News on full belly

Pastor Ben will preach the Good News of Jesus in Haiti today.  He will have a little more credibility than he did last Sunday, even though last Sunday was Easter!  17 of us walked around Pastor Ben’s community handing out rice and beans this past week.  One woman we gave food to said her children had not eaten the day before and were crying because they were hungry.  Needless to say, she was grateful.

Pastor Ben has been to homes before seemingly empty handed telling people that Jesus loves them.  One woman said, “How dare you come to my home and tell me Jesus loves me when my children are starving.”

I can’t say for sure how many small bags of rice and beans we purchased and gave out in the last few days, but it was over 100 of each.  Our mission was to show them that Jesus loves them.  I know that they will be more receptive to Pastor Ben telling them that Jesus loves them after the past few days when Jesus actually sent His people to show them.

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? ~ James 2:15-16

Excellent! People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. That’s why Jesus said, “Give them something to drink, something to eat, visit them in prison… feed my sheep.”
