What hope is there?

IMG_6957I listened to Pastor David Wilkerson this morning (from a sermon he delivered several years ago) talk about one of the most important pastors in Hungary who was killed after developing a blood clot after suffering a severe burn.   And he talked about a 5 year old in a foreign village being run over when he accidentally knocked a car in gear, and then falling out and being run over – a freak accident for sure.  And he talked about how discouraging things are at times, even for Christians who are being obedient to God’s will.

Eugene Peterson writes that “danger and oppression are never too much for faith… but (dangerous and oppressive) evil is always temporary…”  On the days that you do not think you can hang on to God, know that He will hang on to you.  That is our hope.  And even more than hope, that is His promise.

Just as Jerusalem is protected
    by mountains on every side,
the Lord protects his people
by holding them in his arms
now and forever. ~ Psalm 125:2 (CEV)

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
 ~ Isaiah 41:3 (NIV)

Thanks, I needed that this morning.

  2. Good post! I especially like the last part, “On the days that you do not think you can hang on to God, know that He will hang on to you. That is our hope. And even more than hope, that is His promise.”
