I spoke for 20 minutes after our community dinner last night on Ephesians 1:4:
Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
It’s incomprehensible. Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us…. And the enemy would have you believe that this verse does not apply to you. The enemy is a liar. I challenge you to think of this verse on a more personal level – repeat after me: Even before He made the world, God loved me and chose me… And to top it off, He sees perfection when He looks at you!
And this is not one verse taken out of context. We read over and over how we are the apple of God’s eye.
- Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved… Colossians 3:12
- For we are God’s masterpiece…. Ephesians 2:10
- But you are a chosen people…God’s special possession… 1 Peter 2:9
- You did not choose me, but I chose you… John 15:16
- …he who touches you touches the apple of God’s eye… Zechariah 2:8
At the end of our evening last night we prayed over one of our own as she prepares to leave on Saturday for a week of working with kids in Haiti through Samaritan’s Purse at the Greta Home and Academy. I sent her a message this morning telling her that God chose her. It’s beyond her comprehension to think that God would think that much of her. But He does. And He thinks that much of you, too. And it’s not because of anything special you do. It’s simply because of you, whom He created. He loved even the thought of you even before there was a world. He has chosen you now that you are here and He is not disappointed. I hope you have chosen or will choose to believe He loves you and thinks the world of you. So much so that He sent His Son to the cross so God could spend eternity with you. (That line right there has to be a revelation to some of you, as it was to me when I typed it.) God wants to spend eternity with you! I love that thought so much, I went back and re-titled my blog.
Former Miss USA Kristen Dalton Wolfe puts it well in her blog when she translates Proverbs 18:21 this way:
Now, speak the bold declarations out loud to yourself. The power of life and death is in the tongue, so it is vital that you only allow the Truth to come out of your mouth. It could be the difference in an amazing life and a disappointing one.
