Looking for chocolate

For our trunk and treat in October, we asked people to bring in extra candy to be sure none of the vehicles ran out.  When it was over we kept the extra for the shoebox room, the Recovery Resource Center, and the NA Meetings.  We still have about five pounds of candy left, but are out of chocolate.  And there was a lot of chocolate.  And I am neither confirming nor denying that I ate my share!  One thing is for sure, when you need chocolate, a sucker won’t do.

I always like taking something like that and putting it into a parable.  (A parable is a simple story with a spiritual lesson.)  Here is the parable of the chocolate.  Just as people are particular about the candy they eat, knowing the difference between chocolate and all the rest of the candy that is not chocolate, so too should they be as choosy between Jesus and all the other claims on spirituality.  Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Wiccans, Buddhists, Islamists, and Scientologists are all suckers, tarts, and jaw breakers.  Jesus is what one needs to be reconciled with God, and nothing else will do.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ~ John 14:6

This is what the LORD says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’ ~ Jeremiah 6:16
