A word for the New Year

There’s been a movement that was brought to my attention a few years ago where people would pick a word for the new year.  A few years ago when we moved from Mason to Short Gap, a friend gave us a framed word, “Journey”.  That’s a great word.  We are all on a journey.

I read about a guy from Australia who, for years, went around writing the word “Eternity” on sidewalks.  It was meant to be a reminder for people that this world is not all there is, but there is an eternity that awaits us after this life is over.  The most important thing about this life is to be ready for eternity.

Along the journey of writing today’s blog, I wondered what our year would be like if our word for the new year was not just a word, but The Word.  John calls Jesus, “The Word”.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.  In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. ~ John 1:1-5

The Word is only impactful when you make Him your word… when you welcome Him in to your life.  It’s the Word that will change your journey and change your eternity.  Go ahead and pick a good word for 2018, but be sure to include The Word.
