The Penguins built in excuse

The Pittsburgh Penguins are a hockey team that has won the last two Stanley Cups (think World Series).  This means they have played hockey into June the last two years, while many other teams finished in April.  The Washington Capitals (who they are playing right now) have not made it past the second round of the playoffs in 25 years.  This means they never play past early May.  Early in the season when things were going poorly for the Penguins, the talk was that they had played more hockey the last two years than anyone else and their bodies were exhausted.  They have a built in excuse this year if this would happen to be the year that the Capitals make it past them, even though it’s about 50/50 right now, with the Penguins down 3 games to 2, needing to reach 4 wins to win the series.

We all have excuses.  We can find reasons to do things and reasons not to do things.  “I hate to sound like I’m making excuses, but…. (insert excuse).”  But the Bible tells us that when it comes to God, there is no excuse for not recognizing Him.  While we are pretty good at making excuses, there will be no excuse when we stand before the God who created us and will decide our eternal fate.  Romans 1:20 says,

“For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.”
