Protection beyond belief

This morning I got the hose out to water the plants around the outside of our house.  As much as I love plants, the best part of winter is not having to water all the plants around our home.  As I was watering some plants on the deck, I noticed everywhere water spilled on to the deck, the water beaded.  It did so because of a water sealer that we put on the deck this summer.  The deck is “protected” from water soaking in. This protection is only obvious when there is water on the deck.  When it rains, it puddles up everywhere.  When the weather is dry you would never know if the deck had this special protection.

As soon as I saw the water bead on the deck this morning, I was reminded of the protection Believers have.  It is not protection from bad things happening.  The protection comes in the form of promises:

  • A promise that you will not go through the difficulties alone.  (Matthew 28:20)
  • A promise that the trying times will not overcome you. (Isaiah 43:2)
  • A promise that there is a place of rest in the hard times. (Matthew 11:28)
  • A promise that even in death, Jesus’ followers find victory. (2 Timothy 1:10)

Ephesians 1:13 puts it this way:

In Him…you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise…

So remember, when the trials come, and they will, remember this illustration of the water sealer on the deck and remember you are protected by His promises.
