CS Lewis writes that as He reads the Bible, he understands it to say that we are not good people who just need a little touch up or improvement. We need a complete overhaul. He says we are rebels who need to “lay down our arms” and surrender.
I believe that the idea that we’re basically good people who just need a little forgiveness from God is the main lie that Satan uses to keep us from God. It’s only when we realize the depth of our rebellion against God that we are able to repent and ask Him to forgive us.
